Souness raps Arteta: Not good if Arsenal desperate for a penalty from a dive

Liverpool great Graeme Souness has dismissed complaints from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta over VAR after their defeat to Everton.

The latest defeat means the Gunners have picked up just one point from their last three home league games as they languish in 9th place, nine points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Arteta hit out at VAR in the aftermath of the loss, with a second half penalty for a seemingly soft foul on Dani Ceballos overturned after Nicolas Pepe was deemed to have been fractionally offside in the build up.

"There was nothing to get you excited," Souness said on Sky Sports. "When a manager comes on and highlights the penalty they shouldn't have had, if that is what you are hanging your hat on to get a result that isn't good.

"If you're hanging your hat on someone diving to get you a penalty that is not a good sign."
