Souness: Bruce now loved by his old Newcastle critics

Former Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness reckons Steve Bruce has won over the fans who questioned his appointment last summer.

Souness, who managed United in 2004-2006, believes that Bruce has done a "great job".

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of United's 2-0 win at West Ham, he said: "There is a feel-good factor there, which is important.

"Think back to a year ago - Steve Bruce going into there, no-one really wanted him..

"He fought that fight and won it, he's come out the other side now and everybody loves him, and quite correctly so.

"He's done a great job up there, it's not an easy job.

"He's won them over.

"That's absolutely enormous for him. He's made some good signings.

"Goals have been a problem for them, Joelinton, Andy Carroll, Almiron - they have struggled but hopefully, Callum Wilson can be the answer to that.

"If they can start getting goals then the whole thing, everyone grows in confidence.

"They need to get off to a good start today because there is a feel good factor with Newcastle where at West Ham it appears to the opposite."
