Vicente Soriano has resigned as Valencia president.

Soriano says he made his decision after failing to sell the Mestalla - which he promised to do when first taking charge last July.

It was planned to sell the home ground for around £300 million, but given the world economic downturn, Soriano declared the prospect: "Near impossible."
