Son of Rangers hero Weir set to commit to England

The son of former Everton and Rangers defender David Weir is set to commit to England.

Jensen Weir seems set to turn his back on Scotland after turning out for England's youths yesterday.

The 16-year-old Wigan midfielder, who skippered the Scotland under 17s to victory against Russia last month, looked set to pledge his allegiance to the Dark Blue cause, says the Daily Mail.

However, after being selected in Steve Cooper's squad for a four-team tournament in England's North West, Weir started for the Auld Enemy in a 3-0 win against the Russians on Sunday having previously been an unused sub in last Friday's win over USA.

Weir became Wigan's youngest ever player when he made a substitute appearance against Accrington Stanley in the Checkatrade Cup last November.
