Son of Newcastle hero Laurent Robert travels for Burnley trial

Burnley are showing real interest in Airdrie winger Thomas Robert, who is the sun of Newcastle United legend Laurent Robert.

The 20-year-old is heading to the Turf Moor club on a two-week trial ahead of a possible permanent move, per LancsLive.

The highly rated winger has several suitors, having impressed during a trial with Celtic last season.

The source claims that Robert would likely go into the Burnley Under-23 side at first, but if he fulfills his potential then a path to the first team would open up very quickly.

His Airdrie teammate, Leon McCann, thinks he can go all the way.

"Thomas is technically brilliant," McCann said.

"He's just so comfortable on the ball, he has amazing feet and it's so easy for him to just glide past players which is why he gets fouled a lot.

"His style probably isn't really suited to League One because it's not the most technical league and there is a lack of foreign players.

"He will learn a lot from playing here. He will learn to move the ball quicker because he won't get a lot of time on the ball.

"He always wants to take boys on, try stepovers so he will learn the physical side because he's got the potential to go really far."
