Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to sign Adrien Rabiot this summer.
The midfielder will become a free agent after rejecting a new deal with current club PSG.
Barcelona had been considered the frontrunners to sign the Frenchman, however, that move now appears dead.
The Sun claim United are willing to make a play for the 23-year-old, who is expected to demand wages of of around £200,000-a-week and a £10m signing-on fee.
Solskjaer, who has yet to be confirmed as the club's permanent manager, envisages Rabiot as a midfield link player for the long-term.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are also reportedly interested in Rabiot.
