Solskjaer pleased with 'excellent' Man Utd goals in Sheffield Utd win

Manchester United endured their customary concession but still managed to claim a 3-2 away win over Sheffield United on Thursday.

The Red Devils now have six consecutive away wins this season, all of which saw them come from behind.

This time United's opposition were gifted a fifth minute goal thanks to a horrendous mistake from Dean Henderson.

The England international, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Bramall Lane, hesitated to clear the ball and was punished as David McGoldrick pounced after a tackle from Oli Burke.

Chris Wilder's side, with only a point from 12 games this season, had their tails up and maintained their intense pressure.

But their high-line was punished by an excellent long ball from Victor Lindelof which picked out Marcus Rashford.

With a sumptuous first touch to control the pass, Rashford took no time to slash home a volley past Aaron Ramsdale.

And that was all United needed to get their groove back as shortly after Anthony Martial scored his first goal of the Premier League season.

This time it was Paul Pogba with the sublime ball over the home defence to find his fellow Frenchman, who benefitted from a lucky bounce to finish past Ramsdale.

United's third goal was a thing of beauty and should convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stick with the same attacking line-up against Leeds United this Sunday.

The play started just outside United's own box when Pogba pirouetted past a pair of defenders and then found Bruno Fernandes, whose flick reached Greenwood - who was fouled but advantage was played - with the loose ball falling to Rashford, who finished off the slick move thanks to a poor save from the Blades goalkeeper.

Despite the two-goal lead, United supporters would have not felt comfortable given their team's defensive frailties this season.

And they were right as McGoldrick grabbed a fortunate second when Victor Lindelof's clearing header bounced off the Irishman's head and past Henderson.

The United goalkeeper then made up for his earlier mistake with a fine stop to deny Lys Mousset from scoring an injury-time equaliser.

Solskjaer, who clashed with counterpart Chris Wilder on the sideline toward the final whistle, can now breathe easy as his side sit five points off first-placed Liverpool with a game in hand.

Speaking after the game, the Norwegian was annoyed his team made the game more difficult.

"It could have been more comfortable, obviously," Solskjaer said. "We were a little bit sloppy, 3-1 up we created some good chances.

"When the second goes in it's really difficult. They are a handful, in a really unorthodox way, and they made it hard. It's always learning.

"He comes back here, he's probably been looking forward to this and it just shows his character, the rest of the game. With the pace and the skill, and the quality of the touches and movement, I thought all three goals were excellent."
