Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists they'll stay the course regarding their youth policy.
Facing Manchester City at the Etihad today, Solskjaer was pressed about how they can catch up to the Premier League champions.
He said, "We're going to continue in the direction we're going in now. We know we need to strengthen the squad with more depth and quality, because we have lost seven very experienced players since I came in (Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku, Ander Herrera and Alexis Sánchez).
"We've signed three good players (Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James), of course, and we've got some young guys up, but we still need more breadth in the squad. When we get those players in, I'm sure we can close the gap."
Asked about spending big sums on big names, Solskjaer shook his head.
He continued: "What do I look like? Do I look like I want to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players we're not sure about? We have to rebuild, we have to change the culture, we want a culture where people are hungry and selfless, as most of these players show.
"Players like Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard know what Manchester United is all about."
