Borussia Monchengladbach enjoyed winding up Roma defender Chris Smalling after a penalty was wrongly awarded against the Manchester United loanee.
Smalling , who is on loan at Roma, jumped to defend a free-kick as the clock ticked into the 93rd minute in their Europa league clash against Monchengladbach on Thursday.
Replays showed that the ball hit him full in the face - but he and his Roma team-mates were then stunned as Scottish referee Willie Collum awarded a penalty, judging Smalling to have handled the ball.
Lars Stindl fired home the spot-kick for Moenchengladbach, earning the visitors a 1-1 draw and a potentially crucial point.
And Monchengladbach were quick to poke fun at the incident, with the club's Twitter account posting a picture of character with a hand for a head along with the message: 'Too soon?'
