Smith 'really proud' of Norwich players after Liverpool defeat

Norwich City boss Dean Smith was happy with his players after their 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

Smith was proud of his team following their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, after the Canaries produced a battling display at Anfield.

Milot Rashica's deflected strike shortly after half-time put City in the driving seat for a famous win, but Liverpool's quality in the final third showed in the final half-an-hour with goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz turning the game on its head.

Smith said, “I'm really proud of the team in terms of what they're giving at the moment. They're learning all the time.

“I was disappointed last week with the goals we conceded against Man City, and we needed to step up and learn from those mistakes. I thought we did that today.

“I thought we looked a threat, had a goal disallowed in the first minute. We started the second-half really well and took a deserved lead at the time.

"Ultimately, we're up against one of the top teams in the world and their front three are the ones who have taken the game away from us today.

“I've said to the players that we have to keep believing in what we're doing. We've been a threat today against Liverpool, no disrespect against the teams who we've got to play but they're not Man City or Liverpool.

“If our performance levels are like they were today, we'll be okay."

Focusing on the key moments in the match, Smith added: “It was a well worked goal (from Milot). We got a bit of fortune with the deflection but sometimes you need that.

“In the second-half, we started really well. But ultimately we come away with nothing. But we'll take an awful lot of belief and confidence from the performance.

“If we'd have seen that out for another ten minutes, the fans were up for it and who knows what could have happened?

“I'm a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded. They try and create space for themselves and we opened up a few slots for them. They've played into those slots and got the goals."
