Manchester United defender Chris Smalling remains hopeful of signing with Roma.
Calciomercato.com says Smalling has received a boost in his attempts to return to Roma.
He has enjoyed a fine season on loan in Serie A and was keen to continue his stay in the Eternal City.
The Italians were keen to bring the defender in, but have been unable to agree a deal with Manchester United, who are reported to want €20million (£18m) for the England international.
That could be about to change, however. The report states that the club will now have extra money available to them following a takeover from Texas-based billionaire Dan Friedkin.
