Sir Alex attends high-powered Man Utd luncheon in city centre

Manchester United powerbrokers held a club lunch in the city centre today.

The Manchester Evening News reports United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Sir Alex Ferguson were among the diners at a club luncheon in the city centre on Thursday.

Solskjaer, Ferguson and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were present for a lunch involving the club's management and board members at The Ivy in Spinningfields.

Onlookers said Woodward, who has not attended a match at Old Trafford since the fallout over the Super League breakaway, was the only member of the party who entered via the staff entrances at the side of the building.

The United technical director Darren Fletcher, former chief executive David Gill and club director Mike Edelson also attended. The United squad had a team-bonding meal at The Ivy on the eve of the season last month.

United host Newcastle on Saturday in what is set to be Cristiano Ronaldo's first appearance for the club since the 2009 Champions League final.
