Shorey to become Reading's highest ever paid

Reading are set to make England left-back Nicky Shorey the highest paid player in their history.

Shorey, 26, will celebrate making his international debut and getting married by sealing a four-year deal worth £25,000 a week.

Shorey will sign his contract when he returns from Mauritius in a fortnight's time as West Ham boss Alan Curbishley ponders over making a £5million bid.

Royals director of football Nicky Hammond said: "I spoke with Nicky about a new contract at the end of the season - before he was called into the England squad.

"He has obviously been busy, having been called into the England B team and then the senior team, so I have not had the chance to get a vibe from him.

"I know he is happy here so hopefully we can move discussions forward once he has had his honeymoon. I've said all along we are not looking to lose our best players."
