Shooting victim Cabanas should have signed with Sunderland

The agent of shooting victim Salvador Cabanas believes his client should have signed a deal with Sunderland in January.

Ruben Caicedo believes Cabanas, who was shot in the head last month outside a Mexico City nightclub, was extremely close to landing a deal with Sunderland prior the shooting.

"Cabanas should have left (Club) America in January for Sunderland," Caicedo said of the Paraguay striker.

"Everything had been arranged, the offer had been accepted by America, we had arranged everything, even the salary of the player.

"He only had to do his medical examinations.

"In addition, America was looking for a player to replace Cabanas but unfortunately this accident happened and for the moment everything has failed."
