New Arsenal signing Shkodran Mustafi has stated that he has made a step forward in his career by joining the Gunners.

Mustafi has earned the reputation as one of the finest defenders in Europe over the past few years and the German completed a move in excess of £35million from Spanish club Valencia on Tuesday.

Mustafi spoke of his switch to Arsenal upon the completion of the transfer and has stated his belief that joining the Gunners will help him develop further as a player.

The 24-year-old told arsenal.com: "When you change team, obviously you try to always make a step forward.

"I think coming here I've made a step forward, because Arsenal is a big club with big players and a great manager.

"For me I think the most important thing was if I made a change, could I learn something? Was it going to be good for my development?

"I think that being here now is going to help me grow as a player."
