Shilton: How long will Henderson accept being Man Utd reserve?

England great Peter Shilton can't see Dean Henderson being happy on the bench at Manchester United this season.

Henderson has begun the campaign as backup to David de Gea after returning from his loan with Sheffield United.

Shilton told talkSPORT: "I think he's made his choice, he seems to have said: 'I'm going to stay at United and I'm ready for the big stage'.

“It's a big club to play for, you're under the microscope week-in, week-out as a goalkeeper.

“But with the way De Gea is playing at the moment and has been for a little while, I think maybe he'll get his chance soon.

“And he should do, because David is not having the best of times and some of the goals that are going past him… I know he had a terrific spell at United and people will remember that and they're probably waiting for him to come back to form.

"But I think Dean Henderson probably deserves his chance now, and De Gea probably needs a bit of a rest. He's not in great form.

“I'm just being honest. You can only wait so long, and if you think your first choice keeper isn't playing well and hasn't been for a little while, when are you going to get put in?

“It can be a very frustrating time.

“If he doesn't get in I think he probably would want to go somewhere he's playing first-team football again."
