Sheffield Utd won't be forced into selling Liverpool, Aston Villa target Berge cheaply

Aston Villa have joined Liverpool in their interest in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge.

Berge is expected to leave the Blades as they face relegation, with Villa and the Reds among suitors.

Yorkshire Live says a member of the United board's inner circle insists they are under no pressure to sell any player upon their impending relegation from the Premier League.

That includes star asset Berge.

Reports that United want their money back for the Norwegian international and that they are looking to recoup the £22.5m they paid Genk for his signature last year are wide of the mark.

United will reject any offer of this nature and will only sell if a bid received is substantially more than this.

That figure is £35-40million, according to that same person who will have close involvement in next season's transfer plans.
