Sheffield Utd survive with ten men to defeat Aston Villa

Sheffield United survived more than 30 minutes with 10 men to claim their fourth Premier League win of the season over Aston Villa.

David McGoldrick opened the scoring for the Blades with 30 minutes on the clock.

Phil Jagielka was sent off after half-time for a foul on Anwar El Ghazi after his yellow card was changed to a red after referee Robert Jones consulted the pitch-side monitor.

But Villa were unable to take advantage of the decision, with Ollie Watkins coming closest when his header crashed off the post.

Dean Smith's side could have moved three points from a Champions League place with a win.

On the other side, Blades boss Chris Wilder was ready to celebrate a rare win for his side.

"I said to the players I'll celebrate for them tonight," Wilder told BT Sport. "They have another game on Saturday. All the beers they might have drunk tonight, I'll do that for them. I'll give it a good go.

"It was everything you want in a performance.

"That was a game like 90% of our games last season."
