Sheffield Utd boss Wilder: Prem wages a huge gap to bridge

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says he'll accept their modest approach to the January market.

Following yet another defeat, this time at home to Everton on Boxing Day, Wilder was asked whether he had considered requesting a change to the upcoming transfer approach.

Wilder replied, saying: "Different football clubs will have different levels of investment, of course.

"Not just from a fees point of view, but also in terms of wages.

"I've spoken about that long and hard - it's a huge battle to bridge the gap because of our seasons out of the Premier League. This is only our third season in the Premier League over the last 25 seasons, and through that period we've had to improve different aspects of the club.

"I've spoken to the owners in terms of bringing a couple of players in. I will always try to improve the football club with the resources that we've got.

"But at times it's a huge gap to bridge.

"It can't always be done with enthusiasm and with commitment or work ethic.

"Sometimes, it's got to be done with (signing) quality.

"Taking aside what we can and can't bring in, I still expect more quality from the players that we've got.

"They know it and they understand that. It's about them sticking their chests out and showing that quality."
