Sheffield Utd boss Wilder hands Rodwell chance

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has taken on free agent Jack Rodwell.

The Mirror says former Everton and Manchester City defender Rodwell is training with Sheffield United in the hope of being signed up on a free transfer by the Blades.

The 28-year-old last played for Blackburn but has been without a club since the end of last season.

After a bright start to his career Rodwell has faded thanks to persistent injuries, and he will be desperate to show Wilder that he can still do a job at the top level.

The former England international held talks with Roma earlier this season before the move fell through.
