Sheffield Utd boss Wilder confirms centre-half signing plans

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder admits he's seeking a new centre-half signing in January.

The Blades have struggled to cope with the loss of Jack O'Connell, who was ruled out for the season in September after it was revealed he needed to undergo surgery on a knee injury.

"I have not had that discussion with the board yet, but we certainly need to improve in January in that position," he told Yorkshire Live.

"It was something that I would have desperately liked to have done (in October).

"Missing a player like Jack is a big blow for us. We are working tremendously hard and we are always looking and watching in the recruitment world.

"Some players who are available one minute suddenly get themselves back in the team and that door closes and then another one might open.

"It's a moving game on that front. We have to be on the ball to see what's available.

"There are certain conversations going on now between agents and ourselves to see who is available.

"We all know where the best players are and we all have different situations in terms of how we go about getting those best players.

"It's difficult if you are in our situation. I am not being critical but it's quite easy if you are Manchester United and you need a centre half and we'll go and sign a cheque to Leicester for £75m.

"It's more difficult for us to go and do that."
