Newcastle United great Alan Shearer praised the players for their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.
Joe Willock jumped from the bench to net an equaliser.
Shearer said it was the "performance" Steve Bruce needed and that the players could not let their attitude and levels drop now.
"It was much improved, particularly going forward, from Newcastle. Their attitude was much better than it was a couple of weeks ago," Shearer said on Match of the Day.
"They got men forward, they were passing forward and got balls into the box. They got men into the box and I thought they did enough to win the game. A point was the least they deserved and they probably should have got all three.
"They created chances against I thought a very, very poor back four for Tottenham. They created chances because Tottenham made so many errors and didn't pick up players. The first goal was unbelievable from Tottenham, they had three opportunities to get rid of it.
"It was good from Longstaff, a good pass and a good finish from Joelinton. Willock did a good job when he came on, that's what his job was, to get into the box and finish things off. A point was the least they deserved.
"It was the performance they needed. They had 17 shots in the box and that's the most they've had under Steve Bruce in the Premier League but they've set a standard now.
"That's the standard they have to keep from now until the end of the season."
