Luke Shaw was happy to be back in action for Manchester United for their draw at Stoke City.

The wing-back expressed sympathy for Ashley Young who pulled a hamstring at the Britannia Stadium, but he is pleased to be involved again following his own injury lay-off with ankle ligament damage. Young switched flanks to operate on the right in Antonio Valencia's absence as the Reds battled to earn a point in blustery conditions.

"Coming to Stoke is always going to be a battle, with a lot of balls in the air so it was tough for me," said Shaw, who played for just over an hour.

"We always want to get maximum points when we come away. We didn't do that, it wasn't our day, so we're going to have to focus on the next game [at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup].

"I need game time now," he stressed. "I had [around] 60 minutes against Stoke and that was pre-planned. If I had been able to go on longer then I would have done, but I think the main thing for me now is to get a run of games together.

"It was a great feeling watching the team do well [in my absence]. We always want to win the games and now I am back fit I want to be a part of the winning run.

"There's massive competition for me. I think it's a big credit to Ashley Young. He has been superb, one of our best players for the last four or five matches. It's just unfortunate for him that's he got this injury now. I hope it's not too bad. I hope he comes fighting back again."
