Shaqiri 'arrogance' provided edge for Liverpool - Wijnaldum

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has credited Xherdan Shaqiri with helping introduce some "arrogance" off the bench during Saturday's 4-1 win over Cardiff City.

Cardiff were putting Liverpool under real pressure after Callum Paterson halved the deficit with just over ten minutes remaining.

But an elegant goal from Shaqiri shortly after ultimately finished the game and Wijnaldum was full of praise from his Swiss teammate.

"He helped to give us a little bit more arrogance," the Dutchman said.

"He helped us to calm down the game again because they were pressing, they had a feeling that they could score the second goal and he took that away.

"I didn't get the feeling that we were scared or something. But the decisions that we made and the balls that we lost, they had a few set-pieces that gave them confidence, their fans (got) behind them and our fans were a little bit (worried) – then you get the atmosphere."
