Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko is a target for Arsenal.
Arsenal are looking to Matviyenko to shore up their leaky back four after the Ukrainian's agent confirmed an approach from the Premier League club.
New boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in alternative defensive options before the close of the January transfer window after Calum Chambers' season-ending injury as well as questionable performances from David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi.
And now it is claimed that the north London club have commenced negotiations with Ukraine side Shakhtar over their 23-year-old defender's availability.
"Recently, my colleagues and I have been constantly in contact with representatives of the Arsenal, and have had meetings," Matviyenko's agent, Yuriy Danchenko, told Ukrainian media sources.
"The Gunners' hierarchy have already contacted [Shakhtar], and we hope that these negotiations will succeed."
