SFA investigating racial comments by Villa's Celtic loanee Tonev

Celtic midfielder Aleksandar Tonev is under investigation from the Scottish Football Association for alleged racist comments he made last weekend.

Aberdeen defender Shaleum Logan has claimed that the Bulgarian winger, on loan from Aston Villa, racially abused him during last Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash at Parkhead which the Hoops won 2-1.

The SFA is now looking into incident after receiving a notice of complaint from the Dons and have revealed that a hearing will take place on October 9.

A SFA statement read: "Disciplinary Rule 202: Excessive Misconduct by the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature.

"Principal Hearing date: Thursday, 9th October 2014.

"Mr. Tonev has until Friday, 26th September 2014 to respond to the complaint."

However, Celtic are adamant that Tonev did nothing wrong and have stated that they will fight the charge.

"As we have said before, we have spoken to the player and he has stated the accusation is not true and he will, therefore, be defending the charge," read the Celtic statement.
