Sevilla trio caught up in Guinea coup

Sevilla players Bono, Youssef En-Nesyri and Munir El Haddadi have been caught up in the coup in Guinea.

The World Cup qualifier between Guinea and Morocco has been thrown into doubt following an attempted coup in Guinea. Intense automatic gunfire resounded throughout the day on Sunday around Conakry, the capital city, with the presence of soldiers in the streets.

While the squad trained on Saturday ahead of the scheduled fixture on Monday, the situation turned significantly on Sunday, meaning that they were unable to train.

Now, the Guinean government are working to ensure the security of the Morocco squad and their safe return home.

Sevilla have called for calm, insisting that the trio are safe.

"Bono, Munir and Youssef En Nesyri are safe in their hotel with the Moroccan national team in Guinea, after a coup d'état took place in the African country today," a statement said.

"The Sevillistas are in the country as they were scheduled to play against Guinea in a World Cup qualifier.

"Sevilla sporting director Monchi has been in contact with the three players. They told him that they are calm, and are waiting to find out when they can return to Morocco."
