Seattle Sounders star Martins set for Shanghai Shenhua

Obafemi Martins is on the verge of joining Shanghai Shenhua according to reports.

The BBC has reported that the Nigerian striker has indeed already joined the Chinese Super League outfit but the Sounders are yet to confirm any deal.

The report suggests that 31-year-old Martins, who has been with Seattle since 2013, has made the switch to China, however, Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey revealed there is only interest from the Far East and the payer's future in MLS remains in doubt.

"Oba's not here with us in this phase of camp," Lagerwey said from the club's pre-season camp in California.

"We've had an approach from a Chinese club for his services, and it could take a while to have that resolved. Hopefully we'll know more by the end of the week."

Former Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City and Levante Martins forward has scored 43 goals in 84 appearances since joining Seattle.
