Seattle Sounders star Dempsey suggests East v West MLS All-Star game

Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey has reignited the debate surrounding the MLS All-Star game, suggesting the league follow Baseball's East vs West all-star game model.

In MLB, the league that wins the all-star game gains home ground advantage when it comes to the sport's World Series playoffs in October.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Dempsey flagged the idea of following a similar trend in the MLS.

"I think moving forward as the league continues to develop I think there's a shout to kind of reconsider that East vs. West as you continue to have great talent coming in and to showcase all of it in a way that's ultra competitive," the US international said.

"Maybe if the West wins, the West hosts MLS Cup.

"That's just super exciting stuff to think about."

But when weighing up whether or not he would rather take on big European clubs, such as Tottenham who the All-Stars meet at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday night, Dempsey added: "I like the East and West thing as well.

"I think the more players your reward the better. But at the same time it is is cool to be able to play against some top clubs."
