Scotland coach Clarke: I've been wasting Man Utd 'midfielder' McTominay

Scotland coach Steve Clarke admits they're wasting the talent of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The 24-year-old has been playing as part of a three man defence for his country; but following his brace during Manchester United's 6-2 demolition of Leeds, his national team boss wants to play him further forward.

Clarke said, "Scott's been great, I'm probably wasting him playing at centre half, but he's so adaptable and positive, he's got a confidence about him which I think rubs off on everybody around him.

"When I spoke to him about dropping back and playing as one of the back three for me it was almost as if he was affronted that I asked him if he could do it, he said 'of course I can do it.

"And he's proved that, he gives us a ball carrier from the back, gives us a little bit of composure on the ball and he's a great athlete."

The Scotland boss was particularly impressed with his display against Leeds, McTominay scored two goals in the opening three minutes to get his side off to the perfect start.

"He's been really good for me but then I'm watching the game the other night against Leeds and I'm thinking I have to find a way to get that boy back into midfield."
