Scotland captain Robertson hails coach Clarke after victory over Spain

Scotland captain Andrew Robertson praised coach Steve Clarke after their 2-0 Euro qualifying win against Spain.

Scott McTominay struck both goals on the night.

Robertson later said: "Loved it.

"We knew we had to try to get off to a good start, put them under pressure, get the fans with us and I think we did a really good job of that.

"When you score so early, you kind of fall back a bit, and we were defending too deep at the end of that first half - we had to push up and try to get into their half. I thought the second half was a really professional performance and shows how far we've come.

"The gaffer's been consistent with the squads he's picked, and you can see that with the number of caps we've got now. When he took over there wasn't that experience and now we've got lads on high 30s, early 40s and that makes a huge difference. When it comes to these games, you've got to dip into your experience.

"We had belief. When the gaffer took over that was what was lacking. There was a disconnect between players and fans. Let me tell you, playing in front of a full crowd makes a massive difference, but you've got to back it up with performances.

"It's important we don't get carried away. We've got six points, which is a great start, but unfortunately six poitns doesn't qualify you for the Euros. We've got two massive games in June - if we come out of those games with the points we think we need, it'll put us in a fantastic position."
