Stoke midfielder Darren Fletcher has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifying double-header against Lithuania and Malta with a knee injury.

Before his side trained at the LFF Stadium, boss Gordon Strachan admitted the 33-year-old midfielder would be a loss.

He said: "The injury is a knee injury. He is a fantastic example of how to behave as an international player, a top player on and off the pitch."
