Scholes on Oldham job: I was getting bored

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes admits taking the Oldham Athletic job was about meeting an ambition.

Five and a half years after finally hanging up his boots at United Scholes has confessed boredom had set in and he needed a challenge to light the fire inside him again.

“Yes I probably was a bit bored," he told the Mirror. “I do like my own time if you like and my own company, I've always been like that.

“Some people want to have people around them but I'm not bothered about being on my own at all.

“But it's been more than five years since I retired from playing and the time comes where I just didn't want to die wondering.

“That was it for me. I'd thought about it a lot recently and decided the only two clubs I've ever wanted to work for were United and Oldham.

“A lot of people have mentioned it. A lot have talked about it and it's something I have always wanted to do but only at the right time for me.

“I didn't feel I was ready before. Now I feel as though I'm ready and we will see if that's true.

“I'm sure my wife Claire is pleased to get me out of the house too. She hasn't really mentioned it but I'd have thought so!"
