Scholes claims Man Utd must hire Conte to fix 'poisonous mess'

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes only a manager of Antonio Conte's caliber can sort out their squad.

The Red Devils are stuttering in the early days of interim coach Ralf Rangnick's tenure.

Their latest result was a narrow 1-0 FA Cup third round win at home against Aston Villa, a game which the away side dominated.

Asked about Conte, who went to Spurs earlier this season, Scholes told The Sun: "Some people say he was not suited to United but you have seen what he is doing at Tottenham with a squad that is nowhere near as good asUnited's.

"He will probably challenge for the top four and United missed a trick with him. They could probably still get him from Tottenham. Tottenham fans probably won't like me for saying that.

"You can see he is already getting frustrated with his squad of players and is asking for other stuff.Conte could do something special here, he has got the pedigree to do it. Will we be able to get him? I don't know."

Scholes added: "The club just feels like it's in a mess, player, staff and manager wise. Who wants to come into this club, it feels like a right mess. It does feel poisonous."
