Scholes backs mate for Man Utd job - 'Why not Giggs?'

Club legend Paul Scholes is backing former teammate Ryan Giggs to become the next Manchester United manager.

United were knocked out of the Europa League at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday night and with every passing week, it is looking increasingly likely that Louis van Gaal will not be remaining as manager of the club beyond the end of the current campaign.

There have been suggestions that assistant manager Giggs could take over from van Gaal but majority of the United fans are against the appointment due to his lack of managerial experience.

However, Scholes does not see any reason why Red Devils great Giggs should be overlooked for the job and has stated that experience does not guarantee success, as evidenced by van Gaal's tenure at Old Trafford.

The 41-year-old said on BT Sport: "Why not Ryan Giggs?

"He knows the club, the standards and the expectations. I speak to fans who say they need someone with experience. Have we not had that for the past two years?"
