Morgan Schneiderlin suggests he and Southampton teammate Jose Fonte are perhaps unlucky to be from their countries of birth.
French midfielder Schneiderlin and Portuguese defender Fonte have continually been overlooked by their respective national teams during their careers as they both ponder possible defections to England.
Both Saints stars have been in England long enough to be eligible to represent the Three Lions and Schneiderlin believes they could be given a chance one day soon, which would not be the case with France or Portugal.
"That's the mentality in France and Portugal," Schneiderlin said. "More opportunities are given in England.
"In England if you have two months of playing very well you're ready and on the list to play for England but that's not the case in France.
"Even if me and Jose have three good years we're still not in our national team, but that's life.
"We just need to carry on, maybe we're unlucky to come from France and Portugal."
