Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has called on fans to get behind manager Jose Mourinho.

Schmeichel believes Mourinho has been treated unfairly, and called on fans to be patient with him and his players.

He said: “I think when we give him time, and we keep our patience with the players and with him, I think we can actually focus on what's happening.

“Last season we finished runners up from finishing fifth. We are straight into the Champions League (group stages) this year.

“We won the Europa League with Jose, we've been in two FA Cup finals," he added.

“These are good things; yeah we strive for more, but these are good things, these are positive things.

“So when we give him time, and we give him patience, and we understand that this is a period where we have to develop into where we want to be at the point where we can say: now we can win the Premier League - then I think we will get there."
