Sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is set to sign an initial three-month deal with Liverpool.
Former VfL Wolfsburg chief Schmadtke is due on Merseyside this week to finalise the move.
He will arrive to replace departing sports chief Julian Ward and initially work on the summer market.
BILD says an official announcement confirming his appointment is imminent.
Further negotiations between Schmadtke and Liverpool will be held over the German's long-term future at Anfield following his initial three-month spell with the club.
