Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo admits he had his choice of clubs when leaving Cardiff City at 15.

Matondo signed for Manchester City at the time.

But he revealed to Spox: "Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham were also interested in me. The way City persisted in trying to get me convinced me in the end."

Asked about his subsequent move to S04, Matondo added: "There were requests from other Bundesliga clubs and from teams from England.

"At the time, however, I was fundamentally of the opinion that I needed match practice at the highest level and that switching to a first team was therefore the right path for my development, regardless of the club selection."

Matondo is now being linked with Manchester United, but he says: "At the moment I'm just grateful for where I am and don't think much about the future."
