Ozan Kabak faces leaving Norwich City at the end of the season.
Desperate to find a buyer in January, Schalke were forced to send Kabak on-loan to Carrow Road before deadline day.
The deal includes a €13m permanent option, but will only be triggered should Norwich beat the drop.
For now, the Canaries appear set for relegation from the Premier League.
And this will mean Kabak being returned to Schalke, despite the Germans having no long-term plans for the Turkey international.
