Schalke youth guru Elgert tells Meyer: You can't be satisfied at Crystal Palace

Schalke 04 youth coach Norbert Elgert has urged Max Meyer to consider his future at Crystal Palace.

Elgert helped Meyer develop as a young player with S04 and is sorry seeing the midfielder struggle for match action at Selhurst Park.

And with the January transfer window looming, he has urged Meyer to seek clear-the-air talks with Palace manager Roy Hodgson. Elgert believes the midfielder needs to know where he stands in terms of Hodgson's plans.

He told Ruhr Nachrichten: "The next move must be certain.

"Max has to see for himself that he is now having to make a wise decision. He is a class player."

While Elgert insists all may not be lost at Palace, he says Meyer must be thinking seriously about his future. The Schalke youth guru, who has been in the job for over 16 years, says Meyer is too good to be warming the bench at Selhurst Park.

The man who also launched the careers of Mesut Ozil, Leroy Sane and Manuel Neuer, added: "Either he finds a basis for more games at Crystal Palace or he has to change. Max belongs to the football field. It is clear that he is not satisfied."

Meyer, 24, still has eighteen months on his current Palace contract, having joined Palace in August 2018 from Schalke.
