Santos president Rueda explains selling Kaio Jorge to Juventus

Santos president Andres Rueda has explained selling Kaio Jorge to Juventus.

Kaio Jorge is due in Turin this week to sign a deal to 2026.

“We offered him a new contract in January. I had offered him the 20% from his future and 20% more to his family, so Santos would only keep 60% of his transfer value," said Rueda.

“He would have received a pay rise and a release clause to leave Santos for at least €15m.

“However, the player didn't accept the offer, so we had to take a new path.

“We reached an agreement [with Juventus] after arduous negotiations. A fixed transfer fee plus bonuses that are easy to achieve. The first bonus is linked to Juventus' Champions League qualification and we have the priority if Kaio leaves on loan.

“In the end we achieve the best for everyone. Juventus made an excellent signing and Santos managed to earn something."
