San Francisco 49ers hopeful Hayne eager to see Liverpool action

Jarryd Hayne is hoping to play for Australia's Legends in Thursday's clash with Liverpool's greats.

The San Francisco 49ers running back is in Sydney to watch his beloved Reds take on the best Socceroos players of recent times in an exhibition match at ANZ Stadium.

Reports suggest that former NRL superstar Hayne, who grew up following Liverpool, wants to gain permission from his NFL club to run out for Australia against the likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, John Arne Riise and Ian Rush.

Hayne told reporters at Sydney Airport: "We just have to see what happens. I'm definitely excited to get out to the game.

"I think it's going to be a great game; Steven Gerrard to be in Sydney - one of the all-time greats of world soccer - it's going to be a great game, a great atmosphere.

"For me it'll just be a great pleasure to be out there and in his presence."

It is also believed that event organisers have had a number 38 shirt produced for Hayne in case he is cleared to play.
