Sampdoria hero Vialli sorry over failed takeover bid

Sampdoria hero Gianluca Vialli has spoken of his group's failed takeover bid.

Vialli's consortium confirmed earlier in the week that they could not agree a price with Samp president Massimo Ferrero.

“The reason is very simple, we didn't agree a price with Ferrero," he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It's no-one's fault. Ferrero set a price and it wasn't possible to find a meeting point.

“We regret that this thing became public and, in some way, affected the morale and results of the team, but we have a clear conscience: in the last 13 months we've only made two official announcements, and this is the first time I've talked about it personally.

“I'm sorry because, apart from the time and energy I've invested, I was convinced that I could do a good job with the people already working at the club who, at present, aren't getting the credit they deserve.

“I would've worked with passion, courage and humility to represent the people connected to Sampdoria in the best way."
