Sampdoria Vice-President Edoardo Garrone has confirmed Fiorentina's interest in skipper Angelo Palombo.

The Viola are eyeing Palombo as a replacement for want-away midfielder Riccardo Montolivo.

"Fiorentina have asked us for him, but he wants to get back into Serie A with Sampdoria and we'll allow him to do that," Garrone said.

"Nevertheless, we do need to trim our squad in terms of midfielders. We have a Serie A squad, we now need a Serie B mentality."
