Salernitana sports chief Walter Sabatini admits he couldn't convince Diego Costa about joining them.

A free agent after coming off contract at Atletico Mineiro in December, former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa held talks with Sabatini about a move to Italy.

However, the striker is now set to join Cruzeiro in the Brasileiro championship.

Sabatini told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I sensed his lack of enthusiasm. So I gave up.

"Here we need players who they think of (Ivan) Radovanovic, enthusiastic."
