Salah scores again in thrilling Liverpool victory over Atletico Madrid

Mohamed Salah continued his fine goalscoring form to fire Liverpool past Atletico Madrid in a 3-2 thriller in the Spanish capital.

In an enthralling contest, it was the visitors who took early command as Salah fired in the opening goal after eight minutes.

The Egyptian's shot deflected off James Milner's toe to sneak past Jan Oblak in the Atleti goal.

Oblak found himself unable to stop Liverpool again five minutes later when Naby Keita unleashed a stunning volley to make it 2-0.

But the home side found some strength shortly after when Thomas Lemar's mazy run inside the box ended up with Antoine Griezmann deflecting a shot past Reds goalkeeper Alisson.

Griezmann then levelled the scores before half-time with a fantastic goal.

After a brilliant run from Joao Felix, the World Cup winner took a marvellous first touch to give himself enough space to dispatch a rasping strike into the bottom corner.

The game was flipped on its head early in the second-half when Griezmann turned from hero to villain after being shown a straight red-card for a high kick on Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool then took the lead through Salah, who scored from the penalty spot after Jose Gimenez's clumsy challenge on Diogo Jota.

Jota almost ruined his winning moment by clashing with Gimenez in the opposite box, but after originally awarding a penalty, the referee changed his mind after viewing the pitch-side monitor.

Tensions ran high at Wanda Metropolitano as Diego Simeone refused to shake Jurgen Klopp's hand after the final whistle.

Liverpool are now five points clear of Atleti on top of Group B with three games remaining in the group stage.
