Saint Etienne coach Claude Puel admits the sale of Wesley Fofana was necessary last year.

Fofana was sold to Leicester City in the final hours of last summer's transfer window.

Puel told L'Equipe: "We had a great start to the season but the loss of Fofana, which was necessary, changed something.

"With the loss of the broadcaster, the pandemic, what could we do?

"It was necessary to ensure the wages of the employees and to have a speech of truth."
