Napoli have sacked Carlo Ancelotti on the night he guided them into the Champions League round of 16.

Despite the result against Genk, Ancelotti has been axed just three hours after the final whistle.

In a statement, Napoli announced:

"The Sporting club Calcio Napoli has decided to revoke the role of technical manager of the first team from Mr. Carlo Ancelotti. The relations of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the club, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact."

Tribalfootball.com has been told president De Laurentiis informed Ancelotti of the decision personally before the statement was released.
