Sacked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said farewell to the staff at the Lowry Hotel this afternoon.

The Portuguese shook hands with hotel staff and photographers as he left his home of the last 895 days, answering "okay my friend" as he was asked how he was when he climbed into the back of his car, says the Mirror.

The Portuguese's time at Old Trafford came to a halt on Tuesday morning after two and a half seasons.

After his second spell as Chelsea boss, Mourinho's family base remained in London.

Daughter Matilde graduated from the London University of Arts in the summer and Jose Jr, his son, played for Fulham until April last year.
